A good road
knows when to bend
and when to rise
and pays respects
to the terrain,
doesn’t startle mating frogs
or dragonflies
and the long grass
that leans into the roadbed.
There are roads
long winding lanes
so beautiful
that just to drive them
for an afternoon
can feed your soul.
I know a road like that
where you stop to put
six dollars in a rusty box
and take a dozen fresh-laid eggs
their shells a light blue-brown
and leave your empty cartons
to be used again.

Lovely! You notice the small things which are in fact large. The things that are “miracle enough to stagger sextillions of infidels” (Whitman).
